Registry Repair Pro from 3B Software has a very user-friendly opening screen to simplify the registry scanning process. After performing a registry scan, Registry Repair delivers a categorized list of detected registry errors. However the scanner lacks the ability to report error quantities beyond three digits. For example, if the scanner detects 1,243 errors, the software reports that your registry has 243 errors. This is an inaccurate beginning to the registry process.

Ease of Use:  

The opening screen is designed in the Windows setup wizard style. It is designed with one-click functions (performed by hitting the Next key) which transport you through the program.

Feature Set:  

Registry Repair Pro allows you to make a backup of your registry, enabling you to restore any changes that are made. It has the ability to scan your system for errors ranging from Trojan Horses to startup programs. Registry Repair allows you to customize the scan to focus on specific aspects, strings or values. You may choose to exclude certain files and folders from the scan. Registry Repair lacks scheduling capabilities to help organize your scans. It also lacks the registry defrag feature.

Ease of Installation:  

The installation was fairly easy. We encountered no problems. Default settings are prepared for you to aid in the installation and setup process.

Help/Support:  

The help and documentation segment for this program needs improvement. There is a simple "How-To" guide to help you begin and available email support. However, the FAQ section includes only three questions. A more thorough help and documentation section is needed.

Safety:  

Registry Repair Pro offers some basic features which aid in keeping your registry safe. It allows you to backup your registry. The program also reduces potential problems by performing default searches that do not include invalid drives or empty folders. It reports the quantity of errors detected in each category, but fails to list the actual errors. There is a vague description of the location of each error, but the program does not grant direct access to the error. This program also lacks severity rankings making it difficult for a novice to make an informed decision about which errors should be fixed and which should be deleted.

Summary:  

Registry Repair pro does a decent job detecting potential problems in the registry. It needs improvements in the feature set and the help and documentation segment. With additional safety tools, such as severity rankings, this program would be much safer for a novice to the Windows registry.
